Engage With Us!
Welcome to First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo! We extend a welcome to all who would like to join us and be a part of our faith community that believes in celebrating, experiencing and sharing God’s love. Although we are diverse in many ways, we are united in a common commitment to Christ and a shared vision of ministry to all of God’s people.
First United Methodist Church has stood at the heart of downtown Kalamazoo since 1833. As Kalamazoo’s oldest faith community, we continue to strive toward serving the spiritual lives of our members and reaching out to meet the needs of our community, our country, and our world.
We believe that genuine faith expresses itself through our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness—both within and beyond the church. We encourage and celebrate a high level of involvement because our hurting world needs many helping hands, and only through stretching ourselves do we reach the wholeness God intends for us.
The pastoral staff at First Church feel that the Holy Spirit calls us to be creative, open and responsive in our worship. Our times of worship are Spirit-enriched, enhanced by music that both stirs and soothes the soul, and calls us to a path of strong discipleship that serves our neighbors and is active in the world. We hope you will find that First Church fits your spiritual needs and becomes your “faith home.”
So whether you live in the Kalamazoo area or are passing through, we hope you will take the opportunity to join us for a Sunday service. If you have questions or comments, please contact any of the church staff. If you are in need of spiritual guidance or prayer, please contact one of our pastors.
Looking forward to meeting you!

We are a Reconciling Congregation, welcoming all
First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo invites all persons to join us on our journey of faith. Jesus Christ calls us to be an inclusive church that exemplifies the kingdom of God. We strive to move toward reconciling relationships with all, affirming those who are marginalized for any reason, including sexual orientation or gender identity. We welcome all with open hearts, open minds, open doors.
