Christian Education

Christian Education: It's for Life!
Learn and grow in faith together - all life long

No matter your age or stage, there’s a place for everyone to grow in faith. As a congregation of faith, we invite everyone to attend a Sunday School class to deepen our relationships with God and with one another. Sunday School classes run from the Sunday after Labor Day through the Sunday before Memorial Day at 9:30 a.m. See you in class!

Adult Classes

Christian education andd spiritual formation don’t end when a person reaches adulthood – in fact, the deepest questions of faith are with us all life long. Whatever your questions, and however long you’ve been asking them, you’re not alone.

Sunday Morning Academy Classes are short-term gatherings for adults which explore a wide variety of faith issues and interests. Most last about six weeks, and many lend themselves to drop-in attendance. Most Academy classes are discussion based, with lots of lively, open-minded, good-humored conversation. Our exceptional leaders and facilitators come from the congregation and from the Kalamazoo community. Academy Classes run from September through May.

Longer-term classes also meet during the week. These classes have included Christian Believer, Disciple Bible Classes, Jesus in the Gospels, JustFaith and more.

Youth Cocoa & Class

Our youth ministry is a very exciting and active part of FUMC. We provide a variety of programs to meet the various needs of the youth of our church and our community.Cocoa & Class, our Youth Sunday School class at 9:30 a.m., is geared for youth in grades 7-12. Confirmation class is available for eighth graders every February - May. Youth that were not confirmed in eighth grade, are also welcome to join this class and be confirmed.

Young Children

Our church provides children with a multitude of opportunities to grow, build friendships, and learn about faith and grace. By their exuberance, we feel that children play an important role in the life of our church as they help us understand love, patience, and the beauty of knowing God.

We encourage parents to bring their children to worship with them from the time they are very small, so that they can participate in some or all of the worship service. We strive to make the services meaningful for all ages through familiar hymns, special music, and a children’s message. Approximately once a month, First Puppets performs a small skit for the children at the 11:00 a.m. service. Worship activities can be found on a cart located in the north hallway.

Babies are welcome! Nursery care is provided for children infant through 3 years old on the second floor from 9:20 a.m. through the end of the 11:00 a.m. service. Our nursery is complete with a separate infant room, creative wall murals, and a kitchenette to warm bottles. Be sure to bring your diaper bag so that the nursery staff can give bottles or change diapers as needed. A Family Room is located in the balcony for those families who wish to worship in a private setting. A pew, rocking chair, play mat, toys, books, hymnal, and Bible are available.

  • Sunday School.  Classes are taught by adults using Bible-centered curricula. Music, crafts and activities complement study, worship, and prayer during class time. We also provide programming for ages 2 through 3rd grade after the “Time For the Child in All of Us” during the 11:00 a.m. service.
  • Summer Programs. Children’s Worship Enrichmentl is available for children preschool through grade 3 after the “Time For the Child in All of Us” during the 10:00 a.m. worship. We encourage children older than 3rd grade to worship with the larger faith community, but all children are welcome to summer Worship Enrichment. The summer also offers opportunities for special programs for children. Vacation Bible School is held for children age 3 through sixth grade and is an ecumenical endeavor, encompassing all of the churches around Bronson Park.
