Heart Prayers: "Blessing the World" led by Rev. Julie Kline.
“Then God said, 'Earth: bring forth all kinds of living souls – cattle, things that crawl and wild animals of all kinds!' So it was. God made all kinds of wild animals, and cattle, and everything that crawls on the ground, and God saw that this was good. Then God said, 'Let us make humankind in our image, to be like us. Let them be the stewards of the fish in the sea, the birds of the air, the cattle, the wild animals, and everything that crawls on the ground.' Humankind was created as God’s reflection: in the divine image God created them." Genesis 1: 24-27 (The Living Bible)
Our beloved home, this earth, is God’s tapestry of humanity and all of God’s good creation. Knowing the richness of blessing, we cannot help but hear God’s invitation to extend our sense of blessing to God’s beloved world and its peoples. The language of blessing connects us heart to heart. Each one of us was created from an origin of goodness, grace, peace, and joy. What would happen if we remembered to return to this space of origin time and again? What if we embraced blessedness as the heart of the matter? We could change the world, heart by heart. CS Lewis wrote, “Courage, dear heart.” It was Lucy who heard it in the book, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. She knew it was Aslan and his sweet breath had breathed on her, and she was filled with courage. As worship emerges this month, let us feel the sweet breath of the Holy Spirit upon us and be filled with courage, so that we may connect blessed heart to blessed heart. (Emerging Worship is on the 2nd Sunday of the month at 9:30 a.m. in the Wesley Hall.)
