Advent, Week 3: Do the Good That Is Yours to Do

As Advent unfolds, we are encouraged to pause amidst life’s busyness, seek deeper spiritual connections, and extend acts of kindness and service to others. On this journey of waiting and hope our worship series “Words for the Beginning” encourages us to hear the curiosity presented in our Gospel lesson. “What then shall we do is asked three times in the story of John the Baptizer. We are often daunted by the enormity of the world’s problems. On this third Sunday of Advent, we need to remember that joy comes from contributing our small, ordinary actions. We cannot solve all the world’s problems, much as we may desire, but we can do the good that is ours to do.
