"We Shall Not Be Moved" Sunday Class

February 18, 2018 - March 18, 2018, 9:30 - 10:30 am

Gave you ever wondered how the church has viewed the advancement of women or people of color? Are you looking for ways that our church could be more inclusive? Join leaders Deb Search Willoughby and Lori Owen-Rogers as they dive into the history of the United Methodist Church. Using the book We Shall Not Be Moved: Methodists Debate Race, Gender, and Homosexuality by Jane Ellen Nickell as the foundation of the class, you will explore the struggles people of color, women, and LGBTQ+ communities have had, and still have, when it comes to leadership in the church. With the aid of timelines, videos, and interactive discussion, Deb and Lori will show the struggles and triumphs, and how these issues all intersect. This four week class (no class on March 11, so participants can attend Emerging Worship during the 9:30 a.m. hour) will discuss racism, sexism, homophobia, and the areas we see this in the United Methodist Church. (It is not necessary to purchase book.)
