Justice at First UMC Special Offering
Sunday, July 21, 2019
On July 14 we will receive an offering in support of our "doing justice." These activities are not supported by the regular budget, but are vitally important in our being God’s church in Kalamazoo. The Justice Team used to have monthly meetings. It became clear that the business of the committee was preventing passionate people from being involved in the processes that could lead this city and the larger communities to enact policies that would mitigate injustices. We are now more involved in organizations that help us further those objectives. The offering will provide us the money to maintain a relationship with ISAAC (Interfaith Strategy for Advocacy and Action in the Community), Michigan United, and other organizations. The Team includes those involved in the Reconciling Ministries, JFON, ISAAC, MOMS, Michigan United, Interfaith Coalition for Peace and Justice, and Youth Tribe. The few times that the Justice Team will meet as a body will be to decide how to allocate our resources to further our efforts, to identify how to expand, and to strategize how to encourage more of our members at FUMC to be involved.
