"Advent: For Such a Time," Led by Rev. Julie Kline. Esther and Mordecai lived in a time of fear when their people were being systematically killed. The Jews were a minority and in exile. Royal decrees attempting to wipe out their people were real, fierce, and undeniably their reality. Unfortunately, we see this nightmare scenario repeat itself with different oppressors and various groups of people being targeted throughout history—even today. It is important to lament that these times appear in our history and that we are born into them but we must not stop at lament. The next step is to discern ways to make it our time to work and overcome forces of darkness and bring light and hope into the world. This is Advent, the arrival of something important, something awaited. Is this our time? Are we called to change the world—even if it is a small sliver of light? Coffeehouse Worship is a family-friendly worship. Children are welcome to stay throughout the worship and engage with the sacred. Come, as we gather in Wesley Hall around tables of fellowship, building a spirit of community that is ready to be engaged.
